Some of the most important regions or denominations of origin for white wine in Spain are the following:
- D. O. Rueda: This denomination of origin is synonymous with Verdejo, which is the typical variety of the area and which has had an explosion almost from zero in the last decades. The strength of Rueda wine lies in its floral and fruity bouquet, with a slightly bitter tone that leaves a spicy taste in the mouth and is reminiscent of herbs.
- D. O. Rías Baixas: 30 years ago, its wines were totally unknown, until some entrepreneurs started to invest in the production of white wines and proved that the alvariño variety could be used to produce white wines that had nothing to envy to the European noble varieties. The alvariño variety is very aromatic and, together with an elegant fruity character, it has a light acidity.
- D. O. Rioja: Rioja also produces excellent white wines, which are gaining more and more recognition among Spanish wine lovers. They have been made for almost a century from three main varieties: viura, garnacha blanca and malvasía. Depending on the combination of grapes and the winemaking process, a wide variety of styles are obtained, ranging from young white wines to barrel-fermented wines.
